Oh, you lucky, lucky girl, you! I've got as far as Dublin so far to see him (last October when he was in the play John Gabriel Borkman.) But I chickened out at seeking him out at the stage door afterwards, & (rather cowardly), wrote to him when I got back to the UK in order to get his autograph!

I would have loved to have gone to NY this time round to see him but long-term health problems & lack of funds (it's a long way from the UK to the US!) mean that will remain a dream I'm afraid. *sighs* :-)

Please can I have your permission to post these pics on my FB page - just between myself & my fellow-Rickmaniac friend? (Our page is 'secret' & is literally just between the two of us - I promise they will not be passed on or seen by anyone else - but I would not do it without your consent.) :-)

Of course you can post them there, especially if it's just you and your friend. I've seen my photos circulated around without permission (or people pawning them off as their own, ugh) so I just worry a bit.

Thank you! I quite understand your fears - I always feel the same about stuff on the net. To just take without asking is totally unfair in my book. I love sharing stuff with fellow-Rickmaniacs but unfortunately plagarism is rife!

On a slightly separate note - & I hope you don't mind me asking - I've just been reading some reviews of Seminar's preview night(s) &, unfortunately, they were all bad! Someone said the whole play was littered with foul language, totally unfunny &, a lot of the time, unable to be heard properly. Another reviewer reckoned AR's performance left a lot to be desired & that the whole thing needed to be re-edited. I thought - if you didn't mind - I'd try & get thoughts staight from the horses mouth, as it were. You obviously saw the whole thing & seemed to enjoy it. Are they being overly critical? I saw AR in Dublin last October when he was in John Gabriel Borkman - I thought he (& Lindsay Duncan & Fiona Shaw) were amazing (& so did my reluctantly dragged along hubby!) But I do worry about AR's choice in roles sometimes ... he does often seem to chose strange/obsure things to put his name behind :-)

Well, I've never listened to critics and I'm glad I hadn't read anything about the play beforehand. It is pretty heavy with the cussing and sexual comments/situations. Actors and actresses do come on stage half naked at times. I have to disagree with the "totally unfunny." If they didn't get the references, then I can see where they were bored. My Mum (who doesn't read a lot) didn't get more than half the jokes. I find it ironic that critics, as writers themselves, didn't find it funny. As an amateur writer and friend of many, I think the play was satirical in portraying their lifestyles (drink alot, speak extensively with many expletives, etc).

I went to the second preview night and they had already changed some aspects of the play from the first night so by the time they start their true run in November, they should have all the kinks out. :D

I agree with the worry. Before the lights came on, I was terrified I wouldn't like it. lol, I love Rickman, but I am objective enough to not like all of his roles. :XD:

Thanks for coming back to me - that's so good of you! I have to just explain that the only "reviews" I've read so far were just from members of the public (I haven't found any 'professional' ones yet.) They were just audience members who'd given their opinion after seeing the play. I love AR to pieces, but, as I've already said, I do sometimes find his choice of roles strange so I've been eager to find out what people really think of this. And, like you, I'm objective enough to say what I do & don't like. This particular play doesn't sound like something I'd be too keen on. I too am an amatuer writer, & whilst I'm no prude, never quite 'get' why there would be a need for excessive swearing etc. in a play of this kind.(Not all writers are like that!) Sometimes it tends to overshadow things, which is what one reviewer had suggested.

But, once again, thank you for giving me your own opinion - there's nothing quite like having something first hand & I'm really glad you enjoyed the play! It's also always lovely to chat to a fellow-Rickmaniac! :-)

The professional ones probably won't come out until after Nov. 20 which is the official start date of the run. :D Yeah, the play is definitely geared towards a certain audience. Overall, the excessiveness of it is an actual symptom of a much larger problem as the climax of the story shows. There were parts were the actresses were half-nude which I thought they didn't need (and they really didn't since they are secondary characters). But to each their own, I guess. ;)

And you're very welcome! It is always lovely to chat with fellow Rickmaniacs!

Half naked actresses - yeah, sounds like the sort of thing AR would like/be involved in!! ;-) (If I was Rima I'd probably kill him!) :-)
